FreeLGBTQ+ History Month Exhibit Our Strength Is Our Diversity: The 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights
A new exhibit about the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights is on display Monday, October 1 through Wednesday, October 31 during LGBTQ+ History Month. Our Strength Is Our Diversity: The 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights features material from UNO Libraries’ Queer Omaha Archives. Among the approximately one million attendees at the Third National March on Washington for LGBT rights were a number of proud Nebraskans.
Banners carried at the rally in Washington, D.C. along with photographs, posters, and other materials are on display. The march’s platform had seven primary demands including equal rights, an end to discrimination by state and federal governments including the military, and more funding for AIDS research. Notable at the rally was the coverage by U.S. and international media outlets.
The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular library hours.
