In June of 1985, Pride in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area had its official beginnings with a Candlelight Pride Walk along 16th Street in downtown Omaha. A few years later, the first official Pride Parade and Festival took place in midtown’s Turner Park. Since then, this time of year has become a hallowed time for the LGBTQ+ community of the Greater Omaha area. Sadly, we had to make the difficult decision earlier this spring to cancel the 2020 Heartland Pride Parade and Festival.
However, Pride is a movement, and while we can’t physically be together this June, it is still a time for our community to come together to support and celebrate one another. That is why we have coordinated with LGBTQ+ organizations across the Midwest to bring you 30 Days of Pride. We have worked with various organizations, businesses, and performers to curate virtual drag performances, meetups, and more to allow our community to come together in Pride this year.
