Biography
We all want to feel nurtured, connected and safe. That’s true in personal relationships and relationships with professionals like myself. As a psychotherapist I strive to provide a space where you can feel understood, supported and secure as you discover your strengths and work through the challenges you’re faced with.
Therapy Approaches I Use in My Practice
The approaches to therapy I offer draw on current research in human attachment and neurobiology. Here are the primary forms of therapy I use:
EMDR Therapy in Omaha
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an innovative and well-researched approach that triggers the brain’s natural tendency to heal through sensory stimulation such as eye movements. The process addresses negative beliefs and replaces them with more realistic truths. It can resolve past issues such as trauma, relieve present symptoms such as anxiety, and provide skills that help clients toward a positive future.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an approach that draws on cognitive behavioral psychology and meditative practices such as mindfulness, (i.e., one’s ability to relate to thoughts, emotions and experiences in an objective, accepting way). ACT promotes a client’s freedom to take action that are consistent with one’s values.
Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples in Omaha
Couples have relationship problems when they experience emotional disconnection, which can lead to negative cycles of criticism and anger, among other emotions and reactions. The aim of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is to is to help couples overcome negative cycles, re-establish connection, and strengthen emotional bonds.
Your Success is My Success
I utilize something called Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT), in which I routinely monitor your progress and also monitor how effectively our client-therapist relationship is helping you. To do this I ask clients to complete very brief and simple questionnaires that helps us know whether we are on target with your therapy goals or whether we need to make some course corrections. FIT has been shown to increase results in therapy dramatically.
